🏊♂️Have you ever gone swimming in a salt water pool? With their increasing popularity, odds are you have! If you're on the fence about converting, here are some Frequently Asked Questions you should be aware of:
💧Can any pool be converted to salt? There are factors to consider such as space for plumbing integration and electrical allowances, but most salt systems are designed to fit into your existing set up with ease.
💧Should I switch to salt to stop using chlorine? It’s a common misconception that salt water pools are chlorine free. In reality, chlorine is now being produced by the salt system. Salt => Sodium => Sodium Hypochlorite => Chlorine. Science rules!
💧Do I still have to shock if I have a salt pool? You can use your system's "superchlorinate" feature, but each cell produces a finite amount of chlorine. Use the it to shock too often and you shorten its lifespan. We still recommend using liquid or granular chlorine when necessary.
💧Is it true that salt water is bad for my heater? Adding salt increases your pool’s Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) which can contribute to scale build-up. However, it’s often pH that is the culprit. Test and adjust water balance frequently to maintain your equipment health regardless of sanitation type.
There are pros and cons to every pool solution, but we think salt water is worth diving into. For more salt conversion information or to book your free quote, call the Pool Mechanix today!
