Pool Closing Tips

As pool season begins to wind down and fewer people are swimming, you might already be thinking of closing your pool for the winter. ❄️ Here are some tips to ensure things go smoothly and you aren’t met with any surprises in the Spring:
🍂 Balance Your Water: Did you know water temperature is a factor in water chemistry? Test and adjust your water before closing the pool to prevent metal staining, scale formation or etching of the liner in the cold.
🍂 Lower Water Only As Needed: To make blowing out the lines easier, drain water to just below the lowest jet - and no further! Even a perfectly measured liner may shift and wrinkle without enough water weighing it down.
🍂 Shock Before Closing: If possible, shock with half your usual dose 24 hours before closing to prevent algae formation under the cover before the cold weather does it for you.
🍂 Safety Covers: Close Late! The porous material of safety covers makes them more prone to algae. Even shocking may not prevent it in the case of a surprise October heatwave. Likewise, opening early works the same way.
🍂 Call a Professional: If you have any nagging doubts about your capability, better to call in the pros than to pay dearly in Spring. Damaged lines or outlets can lead to lengthy replumbling jobs that eat into your summer - and bank account.
